Renewed identity, packaging & digital flagship store for Alpine

Overview

Alpine, a leader in hearing protection, asked Build in Amsterdam, Powered by Front Row to evolve from a purely functional brand into a lifestyle-oriented one. We refreshed their entire visual identity and built a new e-commerce platform on a custom Shopify theme.

Alpine's breadth was also its biggest brand problem. With products spanning sleeping, swimming, music, construction, racing and baby hearing protection. Each with its own design style and sub-name. As a result Alpine had become more of an umbrella than a brand. The visual identity was fragmented, the communication purely functional and a new wave of lifestyle-oriented competitors was moving in fast. The timing made it urgent: a new product range was on the horizon and it needed an identity worth launching into. Alpine needed to find a single, cohesive identity that could hold it all together without flattening what made each product relevant.

The objective was to reposition Alpine from a functional hearing protection brand to a confident lifestyle brand without losing the product clarity that makes it trusted. That meant creating a flexible visual identity capable of spanning Alpine's full range and a digital flagship that could bring that identity to life across every category and touchpoint.

The design language was built around a single idea: controlling sound while doing what you love. Expressed across a spectrum from calm to wild, it gives every product category its own energy while keeping the Alpine brand unmistakably at the centre. Vibrant colours, dynamic compositions, and fresh photography that captures joyful, authentic expressions, shifted Alpine from functional to feelgood. The new identity extended beyond the screen too, into packaging and even the interior of their new office.

The visual system was built on modular components, balancing technical 3D renders with lifestyle imagery that can be applied consistently across the platform. Under the hood, a custom Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme with configurable sections and a robust theming system gives Alpine the flexibility to express their full colour palette across every corner of the site.

The new identity didn't stay contained to Alpine.com. The colourful 3D renders and emotional lifestyle photography carry through to Google Shopping, Amazon and Bol.com, where standing out against a wall of generic product imagery is half the battle. In a category where most brands lead with specs, Alpine now leads with feeling.
