About
Build in Amsterdam (BiA), is the world's most awarded commerce agency. For over 13 years, we've been building brands and Digital Flagships that are driven by emotion and built on logic, combining strategy, design and development under one roof. By joining the Front Row Group, we operate from New York, San Diego, Hamburg, Bratislava and Amsterdam, with a team of 500+ e-commerce and marketing specialists. We know growth goes beyond the Digital Flagship. Every purchase is shaped by dozens of interactions. To the customer, it's all one journey. Yet most brands still manage their channels in silos, creating fragmented brand experiences and missed commercial opportunities.
We believe brands should connect to convert. We call that Connected Commerce: putting the Digital Flagship at the centre of a connected growth system to create one consistent, recognisable and data-informed brand experience across every touchpoint a consumer sees.
Done right, a Digital Flagship is far more than a website. It's the purest expression of a brand, the source of truth in the age of AI and the commercial engine behind sustainable growth. That's what we build. And that's why some of the world's most ambitious brands like SuitSupply, Dr Martens, Hublot and Polaroid choose to work with us.
The Role:
As Director of Business Development, you will drive the commercial growth of BiA across EU markets. You are the person who connects our world-class capabilities, Connected Commerce strategy, Digital Design Systems, flagship store development, to the brands that need them most.
You will own the full pipeline: from building outbound systems that identify and engage the right prospects, to managing inbound demand, to moving deals forward with speed and precision. You will work cross-functionally with our delivery, strategy, and RevOps team to make sure every handoff is clean and every opportunity is maximised.
Key Responsibilities:
Pipeline Strategy & Execution
• Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities that are the right strategic fit for Build in Amsterdam and the : Group.
• Own and optimise both inbound and outbound funnels, ensuring consistent deal velocity and accurate pipeline forecasting across EU markets.
• Drive timely delivery of sales collaterals pitch decks, case studies, proposals and keep deals moving forward with clarity and accountability.
• Build BiA's sales capacity in line with company growth goals, designing repeatable processes that scale alongside our expanding service offering.
• Coordinate with existing client delivery teams to identify upsell opportunities, particularly around Connected Commerce expansions, design system rollouts, and data infrastructure projects.
• Partner with our Operations team to ensure CRM hygiene (HubSpot), clean handoffs, and consistent pitch support across the sales cycle.
Partnerships & Market Development
• Translate BiA's Connected Commerce positioning (Same Look. Same Voice. Same Memory.) into compelling commercial narratives that resonate with CMOs, CDOs, and digital leaders.
• Represent BiA at key EU industry events, including ShopTalk Europe, building the pipeline and raising our commercial profile among senior brand decision-makers.
• Identify, develop, and close strategic partnerships with technology platforms, agencies, and ecosystem players (e.g. Shopify Plus, Front Row partner network, AI commerce vendors).
Commercial Leadership
• Report directly to senior leadership on pipeline performance, revenue forecasts, and go-to-market strategy.
• Collaborate with marketing to align outbound campaigns with sales priorities and build a consistent demand generation engine.
• Lead commercial negotiations and proposal development for enterprise-level prospects across fashion, lifestyle, outdoor, and premium consumer brands.
Ideal Candidate:
Experience & Track Record
• 7–10 years in outbound business development, agency sales, or strategic partnerships, ideally within digital commerce, brand experience, or premium agency environments.
• Demonstrated success in responsible sales roles in EU markets, with a track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise deals.
• Deep familiarity with the EU e-commerce ecosystem. You know the brands, the platforms, the buyers, and the conversations that matter.
• Experience with Shopify Plus or comparable DTC platforms is a strong advantage; understanding of design-led digital commerce even more so.
Skills & Capabilities
• Strong CRM fluency, particularly HubSpot, alongside command of outreach tooling and LinkedIn Sales Navigator for structured pipeline management.
• Strategic thinker who can build sales systems from the ground up, while also rolling up their sleeves to move individual deals forward.
• Exceptional communicator: equally comfortable presenting a Connected Commerce vision to a CMO as writing a tight, persuasive proposal.
• Sales operations literate, you understand pipeline hygiene, stage management, forecast accuracy, and the mechanics of a healthy revenue machine.
Culture & Mindset
• Well-networked within the e-commerce and Shopify ecosystems, you bring relationships on day one and know how to build new ones.
• You believe brands should connect to convert. You understand what it means to build a Digital Flagship as a commercial asset, not just a website.
• Self-directed, entrepreneurial, and results-driven, you thrive with autonomy and hold yourself to a high standard.
• Fluent in English; additional European languages (Dutch, German, French) are a strong advantage.
What We Offer:
• A senior leadership role with direct impact on BiA's revenue growth and commercial direction.
• The creative and technical excellence of the most awarded e-commerce agency in the world, a powerful story to sell.
• The backing of the Front Row Group: global reach, proprietary technology (Catapult), and a network of 500+ specialists.
• Long-term client relationships with globally recognised brands across fashion, outdoor, lifestyle, and luxury.
• A flexible working setup with a preference for Amsterdam-based or EU-based candidates. Amsterdam is our home base and our preference. If another location in Europe makes strategic sense given your network, we’re open to discussing it. What matters is proximity to the right clients.
• Competitive compensation including base salary, performance-linked bonus, and benefits.
