Holiday season on Amazon: a beauty brand's guide to winning the Q4 shopper

The function of an Amazon listing shifts dramatically during the holiday season. While October shoppers search for specific items like a serum, December queries pivot toward tailored presents, such as a gift for a sister with an established routine. As factors like recipient, occasion, price point, and giftability shape search queries, listings designed strictly for year-round demand risk overlooking the terms that drive holiday discovery. What is more, consumers are shopping early: almost 45% now start their holiday shopping prior to November.

Shoppers are already buying in sets

Prime Big Deal Days offered a preview. In the event week of October 4 to 10, Beauty grew 24% year over year to about $1.2 billion, with units up 23% at a flat average price of about $18.50. Shoppers filled bigger baskets, and sets led the way. Sets & Kits grew 44% in skin care, 178% in hair care, 198% in makeup and 47% in body care, some from modest bases. Earlier this year, skin care sets climbed 37% and makeup sets 84% in Q1. A set is a gift-shaped product, with a price, a recipient and an occasion built in.

Write the listing for the gifter

Answer the gifter's questions. Who is it for? What is in the box? Will it arrive in time? Put recipient and occasion language in titles and bullets, state the piece count and name the skin or hair type so a shopper can buy with confidence. Our 2024 gift guide followed the same logic: searches for shampoo and conditioner sets were up 28% on Amazon since 2023. Alexa raises the stakes, because it answers from listing details, customer reviews and community Q&A. Our guidance on AI discovery is to fix mismatched product data and write for real use cases, not just keywords.

Match creative to three shoppers

Early planners in October want inspiration, so lead with giftability and frame routines as self-care gifts. Black Friday shoppers want confidence in value, which is where copy levers like gifts under $30 and best-seller groupings earn their place. Last-minute buyers want certainty, so use arrive-by-Christmas messaging in the Brand Store and leave PDPs mostly alone, limited to low-risk touches like bows. Our Q4 creative playbook covers all three modes.

Rodan + Fields shows the system at scale. Front Row's studio built a library for three phases, October warm-up, November Cyber and December year-end, covering dozens of kits, minis and promo groupings, all live October 1. One insight held it together: she already has a routine, so show her you know it.

Bundles do the heavy lifting

Let occasion and price point write the brief for each bundle. A trio built for the skincare obsessed gives a shopper a decision, and gives you a clean price for a gifts under $30 collection. On TikTok Shop, Jergens' exclusive holiday bundles drove a step-change in performance, with on-platform revenue more than tripling while growing faster than spend.

Subscribe & Save keeps the first order going

A holiday set is often a first purchase, and for consumables, the first purchase is where compounding begins. Make the full-size refill Subscribe & Save eligible, say so in your A+ content and carry the offer into post-event retargeting. Our Prime Day 2025 recap named Subscribe & Save and loyalty tactics as the way to turn event shoppers into loyalists, and our Big Spring Sale read put Subscribe & Save adoption alongside organic rank and always-on visibility as what keeps performance steady between spikes.
